Counselling

Counselling is commonly referred to as the talking therapy. And that is exactly what you do…talk.

It is an opportunity to talk through situations and problems, explore your feelings and thoughts. To  consider different perspectives and ideas. A  chance to perhaps change the way you are doing  things or the way you are acting and thinking. And to understand why you do the things you do or act the way you do.

You are safe in the knowledge that the counsellor or therapist is not involved or can be hurt by any thing you say. You are free to say all the things that you would like to say in a non judgemental, confidential environment.

Friends and family are, at times, great to talk to, but they are biased and although its nice to know they are on your side it doesn’t really help and can sometimes actually inflame the situation.

There are somethings that you just cannot talk over with friends and family. This could be because your words may hurt or embarrass them or because if they knew how you really felt they may feel differently about you or maybe you feel they will judge you in some way.

Some times friends and family are simply too close to a situation to be constructive and may in fact cloud the issues because of their own emotions or agendas or it could be that you have no one you can trust.

The counselling room is a safe place, a place you can really be yourself.

What type of counselling?

Your counsellor may use a particular form of counselling, Freud, Jung, CBT,Person Centered and many others are available.

At New Horizons we are  eclectic counsellors, in other words we use whatever form of counselling that gets results, sometimes using many aspects of counselling in one session.

We also use Thought Field Therapy and Emotional Freedom techniques as well as Neuro Linguistic Programming. These techniques help the client to remove unwanted thought patterns and emotions and shift the way they think, using these different therapies helps the client through situations much quicker than conventional counselling. They are both dynamic and effective.
